Intrusion Systems

Intrusion Systems, Level 1

Level 1 Intrusion System technicians should possess a basic level of professional knowledge. They should have a basic knowledge of the technology and equipment used in security systems.

Level 1 technicians should have an introduction to the fact that codes exist in the industry and should be able to identify the codes.

The level 1 technician should be involved in pulling wire, and mounting equipment to include proper wiring of each type of device. They should be familiar with basic wiring requirements, series and parallel circuits, end of line requirements for supervision and basic power requirements to include current draw and device voltage requirements.

The level 1 technician should have some basic knowledge on panel wiring and basic programming terms.

 

Level 1 Technician Capabilities

  1. Capable of identifying codes which are pertinent to the industry
  2. Capable of identifying basic components and mounting requirements
  3. Capable of reading and understanding equipment instruction sheets
  4. Capable of identifying basic power requirements
  5. Capable of understanding basic concepts of panel wiring and programming
Intrusion Systems, Level 2

Level 2 Intrusion Systems technicians should be familiar with industry relevant codes and how to use them.

Level 2 technicians should be knowledgeable of all types of wiring used for the industry. This technician should be capable of programming all aspects of a typical control panel.

Level 2 technicians should be capable of conducting troubleshooting and service work.

 

Level 2 Technician Capabilities

  1. Capable of reading and understanding equipment instruction sheets
  2. Capable of identifying correct wiring methods in accordance with the NEC
  3. Capable of identifying appropriate equipment mounting locations
  4. Capable of understanding detailed concepts of panel wiring
  5. Capable of understanding detailed concepts of panel programming
Intrusion Systems, Level 3

Level 3 Intrusion Systems technicians should be familiar with intrusion system design for commercial projects.

Level 3 technicians should be capable of installing, wiring, and programming of complicated intrusion systems.

Level 3 technicians should be familiar with standard practices involved with managing a project.

 

Level 3 Technician Capabilities

  1. Capable of identifying system requirements from specifications
  2. Capable of identifying system programming requirements
  3. Capable of identifying system wiring requirements
  4. Capable of planning and calculating power requirements
  5. Capable of understanding the detailed functioning and role of the supervising station
Intrusion Systems, Level 4

Level 4 Intrusion Systems technicians should possess a strong working knowledge of projects, technology and equipment used in the industry.

Level 4 technicians should be knowledgeable of all types of wiring used for the industry. This technician should be capable of programming all aspects of a typical control panel.

Level 4 technicians should be knowledgeable about all aspects of commercial intrusion projects and all documents associated with such projects.

 

Level 4 Technician Capabilities

  1. Capable of project work with large, complex intrusion systems
  2. Capable of identification of panel wiring issues
  3. Capable of determining requirements from equipment list, drawings, and specifications
  4. Capable of wiring calculations
  5. Capable of programming and configuring complex intrusion systems

Access Control Systems

Access Control Systems, Level 1

Level 1 technicians should have a basic knowledge of the technology and equipment used in access control systems.

Level 1 technicians should be involved in pulling wire, and mounting equipment to include proper wiring of each type of device. This technician should be familiar with basic wiring requirements, series and parallel circuits, end of line requirements for supervision and basic power requirements to include current draw and device voltage requirements.

Level 1 technicians should have some basic knowledge on equipment wiring and basic programming terms.

 

Level 1 Technician Capabilities

  1. Capable of understanding basic wiring, circuits, and metering
  2. Capable of understanding basic codes and standards
  3. Capable of understanding equipment mounting requirements
  4. Capable of understanding basic wiring for locks, egress, and readers
  5. Capable of understanding installation requirements for single door access control systems
Access Control Systems, Level 2

Level 2 Access Control Systems technicians should possess a strong working knowledge of technology and equipment used in the industry.

Level 2 Access Control Systems technicians should be knowledgeable of all types of wiring technology used for the industry. The Level 2 technician should be capable of making the installed equipment work as a system.

Level 2 technicians should be capable of inspection, testing, troubleshooting and maintenance.

 

Level 2 Technician Capabilities

  1. Capable of installation of wiring and equipment
  2. Capable of reading and follow installation instructions
  3. Capable of installing common access control equipment
  4. Capable of understanding of equipment principles of operation
  5. Capable of access control system programming
Access Control Systems, Level 3

Level 3 Access Control Systems technicians should possess a strong working knowledge of technology and equipment used in the industry.

Level 3 technicians should know industry relevant codes and how to use them.

Level 3 access control systems technician should be knowledgeable of system design and advanced access control equipment. The Level 3 technician should be capable of all programming tasks.

 

Level 3 Technician Capabilities

Access Control Systems, Level 4

Level 4 Access Control Systems technicians should possess a strong working knowledge of technology and equipment used in the industry.

Level 4 technician should be capable of all programming tasks. The Level 4 technician should be capable of applying their knowledge to an actual project.

 

Level 4 Technician Capabilities

  2. Capable of program all system equipment
  3. Capable of performing system calculations
  4. Detailed knowledge of codes, industry standards and best practices
  5. Capable of equipment selection from specifications, drawings, or equipment lists

Video Security Systems

Video Security Systems, Level 1

Level 1 Video Security Systems technicians should have a basic knowledge of the technology and equipment used in video security systems.

Fire Alarm Systems

Fire Alarm Systems, Level 1

Level 1 Fire Alarm Systems technicians should have a basic knowledge of the technology and equipment used in fire alarm systems.

Level 1 technicians should be involved in pulling wire, and mounting equipment to include proper wiring of each type of device. They should be familiar with basic wiring requirements, series and parallel circuits, end of line requirements for supervision and basic power requirements to include current draw and device voltage requirements.
