Most know that NICET allows specific references to be brought into the PearsonVUE testing centers to aide in your exam taking. Currently, for the Fire Alarm exams, that includes four different codes.
While NICET had mentioned that the code editions will be changing “mid October” an official date of October 1st for Levels I through III has been released this week.
I am taking the exam. What does this mean for me?
First of all, know that NICET will allow the new codes now and will also allow the old codes after October 1st. However, both NICET and NTC recommend using the appropriate codes for the time period you will be taking the exam. The reason for this is that the exam questions and answers are written to those specific codes, and any changes in the codes could result in an incorrect answer if you use the wrong reference.
If you are taking the exam BEFORE October 1, 2018, you will want to bring the following allowed references with you:
Level I | Level II | Level III | Level IV |
NFPA 70, 2011
NFPA 72, 2013
|
NFPA 70, 2011
NFPA 72, 2013 IBC, 2012
|
NFPA 70, 2011
NFPA 72, 2013 NFPA 101, 2012 IBC, 2012 |
NFPA 72, 2013
NFPA 101, 2012 IBC, 2012
|
If you are taking the exam ON or AFTER October 1, 2018, you will want to bring the following allowed references with you:
Level I | Level II | Level III | Level IV |
NFPA 70, 2014
NFPA 72, 2016
|
NFPA 70, 2014
NFPA 72, 2016 IBC, 2015
|
NFPA 70, 2014
NFPA 72, 2016 NFPA 101, 2015 IBC, 2015 |
Will not change yet. This level will be updated by the end of the year. |
